XO, Kitty Season 3 Review: A Satisfying Minho – Kitty Ending

I didn’t think I was going to post this XO, Kitty review, but after completely binging all 8 episodes for the story… I actually have a lot to say. In this new season, our beloved character, Kitty, is in her senior year at KISS, a school she has been attending for almost three years now. When she’s not studying, applying for colleges, or trying to plan her future, she’s dealing with her crush on Minho and hoping to grow closer to him.

She’s got a huge “Sunset List” and is determined to complete before the end of the school year, hoping to make some memories with her friends. But nothing is ever that simple, and her life quickly turns chaotic after a heated moment with Minho. This season of XO, Kitty really delivers what so many fans have been waiting for. Minho and Kitty are finally opening up about their feelings for each other. I also love how much the show has evolved over the seasons – it feels more romantic, colourful and just more fun overall. But that’s not to say that this season completely met my expectations.

Who is in the cast for XO Kitty Season 3?

In XO, Kitty season 3, we have had some of the same main characters and supporting characters returning, as well as some new faces. Marius (Sule Thelwell) and Gigi (Christine Hwang) are introduced as potential new love interests.

Marius and Gigi have a past with some of the characters. Gigi is Minho’s first love, while Marius and Q had a fling. We also have an unexpected but most anticipated cameo from Lana Condor, who plays Lara Jean Covey.  She is obviously a fan-favourite character, so it only makes sense that she would return to this world once again. We’ve also had past cameos from the To All the Boys World – including Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo) and Margot (Janel Parrish).

What is XO Kitty season 3 about?

The series takes us back to KISS in Seoul, picking up where Kitty and Minho decide to spend some time together over the summer before she returns home. Things are complicated as Minho decides to intern at his dad’s entertainment company. He is thrust into the crazy world of glitz and glam, including the red carpets, parties, music video recordings, and so much more.

Meanwhile, Kitty goes back to the States, where she is reunited with her family. But her life is just as hectic back home as her big sister, Lara Jean, deals with the uncertainty of her romance with the love of her life, Peter.

What I liked about it:

Like I’ve already mentioned in this blog post, Lara Jean Covey has returned. I love how they didn’t change her at all. She’s still the loyal sister. Lara is the type of person who cares a lot about her loved ones. Seeing her support her sister really reminds me of my own relationship with my sisters. We get so many sweet and relatable scenes with her, not just when she’s in New York with Kitty, but also when she comes to Seoul.

I really like how the actors who play Minho, Dae, and Yuri were speaking more Korean in this season. I think this may have been due to popular demand from fans.

I’m such a sucker for cheesy, grand gestures of love, and the scene with Kitty and Minho in the ending was so cute. It’s the kind of classic moment you see in movies, and I absolutely loved it. It truly feels like a world created by Jenny Han. I really hope the next season gives us more of their relationship. The series gave viewers too few scenes between them, and I’m excited to see their relationship explored further.

Something I’ve loved as someone watching XO, Kitty is the friendship between Q and Kitty. They’ve still managed to stay strong after three years despite their quarrels. They truly have each other’s backs, even after a huge scene threatens their relationship.

What I didn’t like about it:

Without giving any spoilers, the show has a storyline revolving around Minho and Eunice, which had hinted at a huge scandal. I felt this was a weak plot device. It also took up a lot of screen time that could have been used to explore Minho and Kitty’s relationship more. We could have seen more of their personalities and how they would work together as a couple.

We ended up spending a lot of time focusing on characters who hadn’t played major roles in the first two seasons. I was also rooting for Q, Jin, and Mario, but another love triangle felt a bit too much, These characters were introduced into existing dynamics, only for the story to shift in a different direction.

Another thing that annoyed me is how Yuri is forced to become independent after the financial situation surrounding her family. She faced a lot of challenges afterward, and it often seemed like she was receiving special treatment because of who she knew. However, that isn’t always the case for everyone, especially teenagers.

The pacing was incredibly slow in this season. Eventhough there was a lot going on in the first few episodes, it started getting slower from then. I was expecting a bit more drama.

I like a miscommunication trope when it’s done right. However, I was annoyed at the number of times Kitty and Minho could have easily resolved their issues.

Overall thoughts:

Did I enjoy this season of XO, Kitty? Not so much. However, do I love this show? I do. I think the fourth season definitely needs to have some realistic drama and challenges for the characters. I would love to see the Covey sisters more and for them to share more of an opinion on Minho or explore how they will deal with long distance if Minho decides to stay in Korea.
