Belly is in Paris! There is so much to unpack in this episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty.
Okay, so you can all agree (or disagree) that Belly and Jeremiah not tying the knot was a good thing.
But anyhow, as the two lovebirds finally decide to call it quits, it means Belly travels across the globe to rediscover herself, while Jeremiah also figures things out, and Conrad is back in Boston (after throwing that massive curveball).
Here’s The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3, Episode 9 unpacked.

Belly in Paris
Belly’s arrival in Paris isn’t without its problems. After leaving her home, she hoped that she would have her place secured in her study abroad program, but things don’t go as expected.
To make matters worse, she loses her backpack while paying at a café. Inside it are important items, including her engagement ring and passport.
This is probably one of the most hilarious moments of the season. I couldn’t help but laugh at the discourse around this episode, with many people saying, “It’s The Summer I Chased a Backpack.”
I loved the view of Paris. I’m glad the moment focused on Belly because even though her life seemed to be falling apart, she was right – rebuilding is always possible.
Belly’s journey in Paris is less about romance and more about finding herself outside of the expectations and relationships she’s been in. Losing her bag, being alone and making new friends – these challenges force her to rely on herself.
Jeremiah & Conrad
With the wedding called off, Jeremiah is devastated and ends up alone at Cousins.
Taylor and Steven try to support him, but he clearly doesn’t want to be helped. Jeremiah is angry at Conrad, believing Conrad’s confession of love for Belly destabilized everything.
This scene was heartbreaking for the obvious reasons, but I also thought maybe Jeremiah would feel a bit more relieved now that he’s not second best to anyone.
And, honestly, he did make the decision to stop the wedding, so I don’t really understand why he’s moping around so much and being rude to his friends.
I’m also not sure why Conrad (who has been told repeatedly to leave) is still hanging around so close to them. At least he finally gets the hint and catches a flight back to Boston.
That brutal scene
Belly considers going back but ultimately realizes that she needs some distance. On a bus heading to the airport, she calls Jeremiah. He wants them to get back together, but Belly tells him she’s staying in Paris for a while, and that she can’t go back to being his girlfriend right now.
Jeremiah reacts badly, telling her “don’t f–king call me again.”
My honest thoughts
Honestly, my heart goes out to Belly (yes, I know she’s a fictional character). I feel like she’s a huge people pleaser—something I’ve also struggled with—and at least moving away will allow her to focus on what she truly wants.
I didn’t mind that Conrad and Jeremiah weren’t in most of the episode—I actually really enjoyed it.
Also, take me back to Paris. The views were stunning.
I’m excited for the next episode!
