At the beginning of series 1, we learn that Jess is a teacher who decides to move into a Los Angeles loft with three single guys after a rough breakup. Her new roommates – Nick Miller, Schmidt, and Winston Bishop.

But as the series goes on, so do all of their relationships with each other. Jess becomes a voice of reason for the group and sometimes a wingwoman, while other times it may be Schmidt who is the sensible one, although he is known for being a downright womaniser.

Nonetheless, the show features hilarious moments from our favourite ensemble. Thanks to her role in the show, Deschanel earned widespread acclaim, cementing Jess as one of TV’s most beloved characters.

What makes New Girl so great and worth watching?

New Girl
The show is hilarious

New Girl is a show that, while similar to Friends, appeals to a new generation.

They are a group of 20-somethings still figuring things out and living in less-than-ideal circumstances, but they manage to laugh through it all – even after bad dates. It feels real and relatable.

Its success is also attributed to its guest stars, including characters like Cece, Jess’s best friend (played by Hannah Simone), and the recurring appearance of Rob Reiner.

Nick (Jake Johnson) stands out as the boyish, opinionated one in the group. Schmidt (Max Greenfield) is also the fan-favorite, obsessive over-achiever; and Winston (Lamorne Morris) a weird but nice guy.

On paper, Nick works as a bartender with dreams of being a writer, Schmidt is an ambitious and often over-the-top advertising executive, and Winston, who joins the group later in the first season, is a former basketball player turned cop. But in real life they are all have their individual quirks.

There are some episodes in New Girl that stand out more than others.

Like who can forget when the group opened up about losing their virginity or when Jess and Cee are invite to a party by Prince? The New Girl episodes are completely unpredictable and funny and that’s what makes it great.

Together, Jess Schmidt, Nick, and Winston form an unconventional yet totally supportive family.

Is New Girl worth watching?

New Girl Review
Zooey Deschanel as Jess in New Girl

Watching New Girl is like taking a rollercoaster ride through adulthood’s highs, lows, and facepalm-worthy moments.

It’s got all the messy, unpredictable stuff you actually experience in your 20s – awkward dates, bad decisions, and unexpected life lessons – but wrapped in comedy that’ll make you laugh until you cry.

It’s an easy watch that’s perfect for those times you need something light but meaningful.

Who knows? You might even find yourself falling for a character or two (hello, Schmidt fans) and stuck with the theme song in your head for days after watching. Trust me, it’s a binge-worthy show you won’t want to miss.
