Eenie Meanie, released this year, marks Shawn Simmons’ directorial debut. He is best known for creating the TV series Wayne and co‑creating The Continental.
Written and directed by Simmons, the film is produced by Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Marty Ewing -producers behind Deadpool and Zombieland.
Eenie Meanie features a number of breathtaking shots across the U.S., including well-known locations in Northeast Ohio such as Cleveland, Toledo, Sandusky, and the Hollywood Casino Toledo.
The cast reportedly filmed scenes in late spring 2024.
The storyline follows Edie (Samara Weaving), a former teenage getaway driver now trying to live a straight life as a bank teller in Cleveland—until her recklessly unreliable ex-boyfriend drags her back into crime for one last casino heist.
The film premiered exclusively on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally on August 22, 2025.

The movie appears to have received a mixed response so far.
It currently holds a 44% Rotten Tomatoes rating.
One critic has already compared it to Baby Driver, the 2017 film starring Ansel Elgort and Lily James – but also shared their critique of the movie.
“Reminiscent of Edgar Wright’s similarly mixed Baby Driver, this has some satisfying scenes but grows less sure of itself as it drifts along.”
“As far as Disney releases go this year, it’s one of their best, and a movie that didn’t deserve to be relegated to their streaming library. The casino chase alone is made for a screen much larger than your television,” another person said.
“Eenie Meanie is a fun blend of elements anchored by the consistently excellent Weaving, making for a solid debut for Shawn Simmons as director,” a third reviewer wrote.
