Jennifer Lawrence Threatens to Quit Instagram After Defiant Post
Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence didn’t mince her words when she posted a clear message to her followers after recently joining Instagram.
The 36-year-old launched a public social media account on Wednesday, which has since racked up more than 3.8 million followers. Lawrence said she was “giving it a shot” before immediately threatening to quit if she was met with any negativity.
She is currently enjoying the attention from fans, who have flocked to her new account since she made her Instagram debut this week. Lawrence account is @jlaw, to which she hilariously revealed in her bio that the username @jenniferlawrence has already been taken.
What did Jennifer Lawrence say after opening an Instagram account?
In a Instagram video, the actress said, “I’m giving it a shot, and if anyone says anything negative, I will quit immediately.”
Lawrence continued, “No questions asked. If anyone thinks something mean, I’ll know. I’ll know and I’ll quit.”
The post was immediately flooded with positive comments from fans, brands as well as celebrities. Emily in Paris star Lily Collins wrote, “She’s here.” Fellow actress Arden Cho penned, “Everyone be NICE! We cannot lose her already! Welcome to insta!!”
Stranger Things actor Noah Schnapp added, “This is the best day of my life.”
In another Instagram post to Instagram stories, Lawrence wrote, “Please be mindful that any mean or aggressive comments can negatively affect the baby. It’s me. I’m the baby.”
Has Jennifer Lawrence had a public social media account before?
This is the first time Lawrence has shared a public social media account with fans. Last year, while speaking with Fandango, the actor revealed that thought she didn’t have a public account, she did use social media privately/anonymously.
“I get in fights on TikTok,” she quipped, adding, “I get in fights in the comment section.”
“It started off with Real Housewives kind of fights, back and forth, Kardashians, that kind of thing, and then it it got really intense when I started commenting on the Royal Family.”
Speaking to Instyle in 2018, she opened up about her decision, saying that the platforms are places where people face backlash and face negatively.
She said, “If you are 20 pounds underweight and talk about eating pizza and fried chicken all the time, that’s not going to make people feel good about themselves”
“I’m on it. But I’m a voyeur: I watch, I don’t speak,” she said of social media. “There is always so much backlash. So many people are listening and paying attention, and they have so many opinions about absolutely everything. I really don’t want to welcome that unless it’s absolutely necessary. I don’t want to put myself out there for no reason. Unless I’m promoting something or something really burns my onions, you won’t hear from me.”
