Studio Ghibli fans, rejoice! The beloved world of My Neighbour Totoro will continue entertaining audiences as the critically acclaimed stage adaptation extends its run into next year.
Produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), this magical show brings Hayao Miyazaki’s 1988 fantasy film to life. It features stunning puppetry, music, and stagecraft.
To celebrate the extension, the team has released new production images sharing a glimpse into the whimsical, heartwarming world of Totoro and his forest friends.

What is My Neighbour Totoro about?
The story follows two young sisters, Satsuki and Mei, who move to the countryside to be near their ailing mother. There, they encounter gentle woodland spirits – including the giant, furry Totoro – who help them navigate the joys and fears of growing up.
The stage adaptation is executive produced by Joe Hisaishi, the legendary Studio Ghibli composer. It’s a collaboration between Nippon TV, Improbable, and the RSC. The script is by Tom Morton-Smith and directed by Phelim McDermott.
The show debuted at London’s Barbican in 2022 and returned for a sold-out run in 2023. It moved to the Gillian Lynne Theatre earlier this year, where it still delights audiences.
