Ever since Red, White & Royal Blue captured hearts when it premiered on Prime Video in August 2023, fans have been eagerly speculating about what comes next. I read the book last year, and absolutely fell in love with the plot and chemistry between our two main characters, Alex and Henry.
The original film, which has a run time of 2 hours, is celebrated for its queer representation and forbidden romance – and now, a sequel has officially been greenlit. Recently announced under the title Red, White & Royal Wedding, it marks the next chapter for Alex and Henry’s journey.

What’s the plot for Red, White & Royal Wedding?
In the first film, we follow Alex Claremont-Diaz, the First Son of the President of the United States, and Prince Henry of the British Royal Family, as they fall head over heels for each other – despite intense media scrutiny and the risk of jeopardizing their public images.
However, everything seems to have worked out in the end, and now it seems even better news is on the horizon.
Details are being kept intentionally under wraps, but it seems the title has already hinted at the focus of the storyline this time round..
Red, White & Royal Wedding appears likely to feature a story that will revolve around either marriage or courtship between the two lovers.
Author Casey McQuiston shared a huge teaser on what’s to come with the new movie. They’ve said the sequel will take place “after the confetti has finished falling.”
The film will likely also explore how Alex and Henry navigate pressures and expectations as a committed couple in the public eye, with potential conflicts arising from their individual ambitions and responsibilities.

Some other great news is that some of the main cast from the original film will be back.
Returning Faces
- Nicholas Galitzine returns as Prince Henry
- Taylor Zakhar Perez reprises his role as Alex Claremont‑Diaz
- Key producers and creative forces are staying on board, including Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Michael McGrath, and Matthew López (who was the original director and co‑writer).
- Casey McQuiston, the original novel’s author, will also step into the role of co‑writer / executive producer.
New Creative Changes
- The sequel will be directed by Jamie Babbit, known for But I’m a Cheerleader and various TV episodes. She replaces Matthew López in the director’s chair.
- The script is being co‑written by Gemma Burgess (in addition to López and McQuiston).
As for the supporting cast, nothing concrete has been confirmed publicly yet – though it’s possible many from the original will return, given how interconnected their roles are to Alex and Henry’s lives.
When is Red, White & Royal Wedding coming out?
It’s seems like we might have to do a bit of waiting.
No fixed release date has been announced.
However, reports suggest that filming might not begin until mid to late 2026, largely due to the scheduling commitments of Nicholas Galitzine. If that timeline holds, a 2027 release is likely.
