This is probably another episode fans have been waiting for – the much-anticipated lead-up to Jeremiah and Belly’s big day. For book readers, we already know that things don’t exactly go as planned, and that’s exactly what unfolds on screen.
The heightened emotions, Jeremiah reading Susannah’s letter to Conrad, and his threat to leave Cousins were all intense – but absolutely worth watching.
Here’s a breakdown and review of The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3, Episode 8. This post contains spoilers for the episode.
Dramatic consequences of Conrad’s confession
The episode starts with the aftermath of Conrad’s confession of love to Belly following her bachelorette party. After attempting to downplay his feelings, he later admits to her that he still loves her.
That scene was probably just as emotional as the last time the two were on the beach having a heated argument. There was so much passion.
Belly is torn between Conrad and Jeremiah, but eventually realizes it’s not worth ruining her relationship with her fiancé.
She decides to confide in her “best friend” about Conrad’s declaration, which leads to a tense confrontation.
On the day of the wedding, Conrad decides to leave for good, and he and Belly share one final moment.

Meanwhile, Jeremiah reveals that he had known about the two sharing a secret Christmas together and had been waiting for her to come clean. He accuses her of never fully choosing him, leaving Belly upset.
The wedding is called off, and Jeremiah ends their relationship, leaving Belly heartbroken.
The emotions in this scene – with him looking clearly hurt and her looking guilty – were so powerful. We all know how devastating this moment was, but that was on another level.
Susannah’s letter
Another scene from Belly and Jeremiah’s wedding day shows Jeremiah going AWOL, leaving her anxious and confused. Conrad eventually finds him and shares a letter from their late mother, Susannah, which was meant for Jeremiah on his big day.
However, it is revealed that the letter was actually meant for him, as his late mother had believed he had only truly loved once, and that person was Belly.
I was in shock.
Despite everything, Jeremiah still meets with Belly to share his thoughts on the situation – showing the kind of man he truly is.
I know this might be a controversial statement, especially since he hasn’t exactly been the most mature in recent episodes. But the fact that he was able to set his own feelings aside so that his brother and the girl he loves could finally be happy speaks volumes.
Belly’s decision
In the aftermath, Belly chooses her own happiness. She goes to an airport where she unexpectedly sees Conrad. Omg the suspense!
Overall thoughts
This episode was definitely full of drama—but I really enjoyed it.
Conrad’s old self started to resurface, and honestly, I think that it wasn’t a good thing. However, I’m so happy about the conclusion, as I do think he and Belly work, and he is good for her.
That said, the show is starting to feel a bit predictable, but I’ll still be watching.
